Within the last few months my son in law has suffered the stress of being wrongly accused of a London ULEZ fine due to Van cloned number plates. He lives and works in Wales. Never visited London.
As far as they are concerned you are guilty unless you can prove your innocence . And they continue to chase you even when you have proven ( in your opinion ) it's not your vehicle in they're crap elongated photographs.
His model vehicle was a later version of a common van. The brand had been remodelled over the years but kept the same overall name but were cosmetically much different.....
When this was pointed out to them with side by side comparisons of his van and the photographed van they did not even look to check, they want the money,...... yet the differences were obvious. They continued to chase. Fines doubled and trebled as the case went on and on. Crime numbers were obtained .....not interested, bailiffs involved, solicitors letters sent....not interested.
Eventually the Local MP got involved and the case was written off.
It is absolutely disgraceful that these people are conducting themselves in this way without any understanding of the stress involved when you are innocent.
They need to be held accountable.
Now to the reason I started this 'off ' topic post.
It became very apparent during the above that an identifying component of your own vehicle that is unique to you should be visible, if possible fitted front or back, that makes your vehicle different from others in your same model range. This should not be a little sticker, or a flag, or a similar add on but something more substantial / permanent. Keep invoices to prove you bought and fitted them, more importantly dates. !!!!!!. Otherwise they will argue you have only just fitted them as your defence.
ULEZ / 20 mph zones etc etc are coming to us all so don't hang about. Individualise your car and maybe it will save you from the ULEZ enforcement scumbags and the number plate cloning Twats who are ruining peoples lively hoods.
Cloning number plates is huge so protect yourself.
